Telemarketing lobby group boosts membership

Telemarketing Association: new members
LONDON – The Telemarketing Association, set up last year to lobby for a review of the Telephone Preference Service, has added three more firms to its ranks.

Joining are Toucan, the consumer telecoms brand of IDT Europe, business-to-business telemarketing and training supplier Blue Donkey and agency The Telemarketing Company.

The body says the latest recruits are an indication of the widespread support in the industry for a review of the TPS.

Primarily the group wants to see a change in the registration methodology of the TPS as well as continue lobbying Ofcom to prevent overseas firms abusing the phone network. It also lobbies consumer bodies including the National Consumer Council.

The eight founding members of the group include energy company Npower, home improvement firm Anglian, as well as call centre company Amcat and Mortgage Advice Services.

Hugh Wood, TMA vice-chairman, said: "With the addition of these high-profile members, the TMA is really moving forward. It is fantastic to see that companies from within the same sector are uniting to campaign for the best interests of telemarketing as a whole.

"These members have understood the need for action and are fully aware of the value of outbound telemarketing to both business and consumers."
